Marriage
On the first pages of the Bible, we read the account of creation. When God created the earth, he arranged it to be suitable for life. Then he created various forms of life. Finally, he created the crown of all creation - man. He created them as male and female to be " one flesh and one spirit " and told them: " Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it ." There, at the very beginning, we see how important the marriage union is.
Throughout the long history of mankind, many institutions and structures have changed and collapsed, but the institution of the family has remained intact. This is because it is of divine origin. God established it and blessed it.
Jesus Christ raised the bond between husband and wife to the level of a sacrament, saying: " What God has joined together, let not man put asunder ." The Church carefully preserves this recommendation of Jesus throughout its history. With the sacrament of marriage, spouses receive the grace of mutual support and upbringing of children. The sacramental marriage relationship lasts until the death of the husband or wife. How many times do you hear that this or that one has been dismissed. The sacrament of marriage is unsolvable. In some cases, there are reasons why the marriage was not validly concluded. If this is proven, it is declared invalid. It is the so-called "annulment".
Sacraments are only for baptized persons. So is the sacrament of marriage. With church permission, a baptized and unbaptized person can be validly married, but the sacrament is only for a baptized person.
Young Catholics who have decided to enter the marriage port must know that one of the church's commandments is to "obey the marriage laws of the Holy Church ." And those laws say that you need to prepare for marriage.
- As a rule, you should contact the priest six months before the wedding. However, it is wise not to set a date, occupy the hall, etc., before talking to the priest, because sometimes there may be reasons why everything cannot be resolved in six months.
- The regulations of our archdiocese are that all couples must undergo preparation. At the first meeting, the priest will provide the necessary information on where this preparation can be done.
- After the preparation, he will meet with the priest again and fill out the necessary forms. The rule is that for each of the newlyweds, one parent must confirm in writing that they are single. And there is a pattern for that. If the parent cannot do this, then two people who have known the young people long enough to testify for them should be found.
- Closer preparation (rehearsal) is done a day or two before the wedding. Then everything is agreed on how the wedding ceremony will go. It is necessary to confess young people, godfathers, brothers-in-law and bridesmaids. So that they could receive Holy Communion on the wedding day. If there are non-Catholics in the wedding procession, they can also approach when communion is distributed, bow their heads a little and receive the blessing.
- The Church is, as Jesus said, " the house of his Father...and the house of prayer ." This should be respected and properly managed. Do not talk (even loudly) in church. Participants in the wedding procession should be properly dressed.
“annulment”.
